Director – Tamata Reo
Self-Initiated Project | Whau Arts Festival - Aotearoa, NZ

Tamata Reo is a self-motivated design project that explores how visual language can support and enhance te reo Maori learning. The objective was to create a series of graphic motifs that convey the meaning of kupu (words) through carefully considered visual forms.

As an educational resource, Tamata Reo aims to foster positive attitudes toward Maori language by engaging learners through art and design. Each motif is designed to act as a visual bridge — reinforcing understanding, sparking curiosity and normalising te reo Maori in everyday visual culture.

Rooted in kaupapa Maori and contemporary design practice, this project reflects an ongoing commitment to language revitalisation through creative, culturally respectful means.
