Creative Lead – Tamaki Vax for Love Campaign
The Fono, Aotearoa NZ

The Fono is New Zealand’s largest Pacific-led NGO, focused on improving Pacific health outcomes through culturally grounded health, wellbeing and education services. As part of their COVID-19 response, I developed the creative identity for Tamaki Vax for Love — a campaign aimed at promoting vaccination among families and young people in the Tamaki region.

A key challenge was to avoid the prevalent imagery of needles; the often aggressive or fear based messaging used in mainstream vaccination campaigns. Instead, the creative direction centered on empowerment and collective care. Tamaki College students were portrayed as the superheroes of their communities, symbolising strength, protection and leadership — reinforcing the message that getting vaccinated safeguards not just the individual, but the wider whanau and community.

The campaign formed part of a broader community mobilisation effort, which saw tens of thousands of people vaccinated across Auckland. Its success directly contributed to improved immunisation rates and protection within Pacific communities, aligning with The Fono’s mission to reduce health inequalities through culturally relevant and innovative approaches.
